How to Start the Ancient Vows Quest
The Ancient Vows quest begins in Act 2 when you find one half of the ancient Relic. The game gives you sparse instructions, telling you to find the other half and place both halves on an altar located in the Valley of the Titans. While that sounds simple enough, the quest becomes tricky because the location of both halves is random, and the game doesn’t provide much guidance.
Finding the Two Relic Halves
To complete the Ancient Vows quest, you need both halves of the Relic:
Kabala Clan Relic (Left Half): Found in Keth, a zone populated with aggressive enemies.
Sun Clan Relic (Right Half): Found in the Bone Pits, a dark and dangerous area full of hostile creatures.
Important Notes:
The Mastodon Badlands does not drop either half of the Relic, so don’t waste your time there.
Focus your attention on Keth and the Bone Pits for the respective halves of the Relic.
Relic Drop Mechanics
Both halves of the Relic drop randomly from enemies and bosses in their respective zones, and it may take some time to find them. Here are some tips to optimize your farming:
Prioritize high enemy density areas to maximize your chances of finding the Relic halves quickly.
Target elite mobs and bosses for a higher chance of getting the Relic drops.
Use poe2 currency to boost farming efficiency (more on that below).
When you do get a Relic half, it will appear on the ground in green text, making it easy to spot. Be careful not to overlook it in the chaos of battle.
Using the Relics at the Altar
Once you’ve collected both halves, head to the Valley of the Titans. Keep in mind that this area has enemies around level 26, so make sure you’re properly geared for combat.
Locating the Altar
Since PoE 2 features procedurally generated maps, the altar’s exact location may vary. However, you can narrow down your search by looking for:
A high staircase leading up to an elevated platform.
A large clay statue of a man gazing downward.
Placing the Relics
There are two ways to place the Relics on the altar:
Placing Both Halves Simultaneously: If you’ve already collected both halves, interact with the altar and follow the on-screen prompts to place each Relic in its respective slot.
Placing the Second Half Later: If you’ve already placed one half, you’ll need to manually interact with the altar to bring up the placement interface:
On keyboard: Hold the Alt key while hovering over the altar.
On controller: Hold the left joystick while aiming at the altar.
Once both halves are placed, the quest will complete and you’ll be able to choose between two permanent buffs.
